Writing

The one project I work on is writing online business guides (shameless plug inserted there, please hire me!) It's only 450 words, but for some reason it takes me longer than it probably should to write the darn things. I know other writers on the project can do a guide in a half and hour or so, but sometimes it takes me an hour...or longer.

I shouldn't complain, because I love the opportunity to work from home and I was lucky to get this job. But...the topics are often sooooo boring, and the inserting of key words sometimes makes my stuff look like it was written by an ESL writer. I'm always SO RELIEVED to get my quota done and get to the end of the month! I thought I was done on Sunday (HOORAY!), but then my editor sent an email that he could get more in. Ack, the temptation to make a few more dollars this month...but I ended up doing only one more.

I think I'd like to look for other writing jobs, but my inability to effectively do this one makes me wonder if I should. I'm trying to get on a schedule where I just WRITE for four hours straight. Right now, this is from the time the kids go to bed until midnight or so. I've been talking for months about changing that around so that I get up at like 4AM and work until they get up. I'd be fresher, I wouldn't get sucked into surfing until 2AM after I finish working and am too tired to get up and go to bed, and actually being awake BEFORE the kids are would probably make the day a little more controllable. I know a lot of people do this, I'm just having trouble making the leap. Part of it's fear about missing deadlines...I keep thinking I'll meet the next deadline, then change my schedule (in case I really can't get up at 4 and end up getting NOTHING done), but it just doesn't seem to happen. I really need to work on this!
