Today we went to Oldest's best friend's birthday party. The boy used to go to O's preschool. They've been best friends for over two years now, and really seem to be a lot alike and were very close.
Unfortunately, O's BF left preschool after graduation. He's in a different school district, and while searching for a preschool that offered before-care during kindergarten, his parents found a place that they really liked and is much much cheaper, so they moved him immediately.
I'd feared this would be very upsetting for O, but it doesn't seem to be. He hasn't mentioned his friend, or his absence. I asked once if he missed him and he answered "no!" in his tough guy voice. An older kid is back at preschool for the summer, and he seems to content to play with him now, as well as a couple of his other friends.
So he hasn't seen his friend in about a month, and I wondered if they would even be comfortable with each other now. Five year olds seem to move on pretty quickly. We got to the park, and his friend saw him from around 10 yards away - and began running towards him, calling his name. They hugged. They were so happy to see each other. It was one of the sweetest, most touching things I've ever seen.
