I had my annual appointment a few weeks ago. I tentatively mention the baby idea. To my surprise, the nurse who does the exam is enthusiastic about it.
"You just have to be aware of possible complications, you know, chromosonal problems increase with age."
"Yeah, I know that," I answer. "So do you have a lot of patients like that, or not so many?"
"Oh, no!" she says forcefully. "Hardly any at all."
Ooookaaaayyyy. Wait, maybe we are not talking about the same thing.
"So you don't have many patients over 40?" I clarify.
"Oh yes we have many patients over 40!" she exclaims. "For some, it's their first time, even. I meant we don't have many with chromosonal problems."
She goes on to say that one of the doctors, Dr. Perry, is a big proponent of advanced maternal pregnancies. (If the quest for Tiberius happens, I'll have to remember to request Dr. Perry.) Not only that, but she reports that the uterus is looking just wonderful. Hooray! This is the first time I have presented this idea out loud, and it actually doesn't sound as silly as it sounds in my head.
Hubby is still wavering, and I guess I am too.
"I am going to decide by May,and just go for it if we decide to. I want to lose a little more weight first." I tell my girlfriend. Via email of course; I talk to few live people these days.
"May is like, next week."
"Not MAY FIRST! Some time in May."
I don't know. I did, however, buy prenatal vitamins. Why not? It can't hurt, and I won't be caught unprepared.
I told Hubby about the vitamins, and expected to have him roll his eyes or start screaming, but instead he got this funny wistful excited look. Kind of the same look he got when I showed him the first pregnancy test results.
Hmmmmm.
